Fat or Fit
Recently I came across a movie and it turned out great!! The movie revolved around the main character and the troubles the character had to undergo for being overweight.
A very few people understand that beauty is skin deep. The measure of ones beauty is generally decided on how the slim rather thin and fair a person is according to Indian standards especially, even at this age and time.
I wanted to pen my observations about how people under go various mental and emotional upheaval because of their weight. The constant nagging from family to reduce their weight. The sniggers from strangers and object of fun within the friend circle. All these things lead to great stress and they resort to what is called as emotional eating, further aggravating the problem.
The self confidence of the person takes a major hit. They start avoiding social gatherings, become recluse, take refuge by eating sweets ( when we eat sugar, the brain releases dopamine and serotonin, the hormones that boost your mood, which then stimulate the nucleus accumbens – the area of the brain associated with reward. This is a similar process that leads to drug addiction, which is why we get those sugar cravings ) which itself creates an unending cycle, causing more harm than ever.
What we need to understand is most importantly " Love and Respect Yourself". Once we understand that half our battles are won. Being "model" slim or thin is not the goal. Each person has a different built and body type. A large built person cannot expect to become thin and petite. One can achieve one's suggested optimum body weight and be healthy. To become thin should never be the aim. The aim is to be fit. To be healthy. To be able to do everything essential for ones age physically. Obesity is a disease. Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to an extent that it may have a negative effect on health.
Little changes in the lifestyle, eating habits and optimum exercise will go a long way in keeping oneself fit. Advantages of being fit and healthy cannot be reiterated enough. The most important advantage being confidence, happiness and peace of mind. Its never to late to start living a healthy lifestyle. The only thing stopping one from achieving one's goals is oneself.

ReplyDeleteLiked this one too. Unfortunately Fitness is still measured by thin bodies in Our country. But people who are overweight can still be fit and positive. It's all a mind game. Of physical appearance does matter, but the way you carry yourself makes the difference.
