Yoga: My Way of Life

“My Body Is My Temple And Asanas Are My Prayers” B.K.S. Iyengar

I started doing yoga 5 years back. During my teenage years I used to practice yoga and other physical exercises, it was never serious or in an orderly manner.

After my baby started school and finally I could find some time for myself that I joined a renowned institute near my home, basically to get back my health and stamina which we mother's tend to loose,  looking after the baby 24/7.

And my love for yoga started from then. A few months of joining yoga, my flexibility improved, I felt energetic and happy. A sense of achievement came that I can push my body to do complex asans with ease and a motivation that I can do better.
I started practicing yoga at home too whenever I could make some time, with my little one watching me with curious eyes.
It's always more fun and exhilarating to do yoga in a class. There are fun moments with the trainer trying to motivate the class to stretch a bit more than you can and the fellow yoga mates trying to push themselves more, struggling, huffing and puffing, but it's all worth it, in the end!! I made a lot of great friends, yoginis, who are so adept in yoga and have deep knowledge about it. Meeting them, talking to them makes me more motivated. Motivated, to take care of my health, both mental and physical.

I have seen many people very close to me, who have neglected health and have paid a heavy price for it.

We take our body so much for granted. Until we are sick we don't realize how much we have abused it with mindless eating and lack of physical exercise. Not to mention about the unnecessary mental strain to our mind we give worrying over things that are not in our control, hate, anger. The mental and physical traumas we put our bodies through. We forget to realize while dwelling on all these negative emotions, no one else, but we are making our own body suffer. We fail to realize that till the end it's our body which will be with us and we have to take utmost care of it.

When we get into the fitness mode, we slowly start realizing how badly we have ill-treated our body till now. The start is always difficult, but once one gets into the flow, then it becomes a habit. You stop giving excuses to yourself and you look forward to workout. The adrenaline that pumps in gives you such a high which no other thing ever can.

My journey with yoga has helped me in all these ways. And now it has become an inseparable part of my life.  So much more to learn yet. Learning is a continuous process.
